MAPA Hires Its First Chief Physician Associate Officer

On behalf of the Michigan Academy of Physician Associates Board of Directors, we are proud to announce the appointment of Sara M. Wilchowski, DMSc, PA-C, DFAAPA, as MAPA’s first-ever Chief Physician Associate Officer (CPAO).

This historic appointment represents an important step forward for MAPA and reflects our commitment to strengthening the organization, expanding its reach, and elevating the voice of physician associates throughout Michigan.

Dr. Wilchowski brings extensive experience in clinical practice, medical education, medical affairs, professional advocacy, and nonprofit leadership. Of particular importance to MAPA, she has demonstrated experience growing membership within nonprofit professional organizations, strengthening member engagement, and developing initiatives focused on recruitment and retention. She also brings a strong record of leadership within nonprofit organizations. Her previous roles have included serving as President of the Michigan Dermatology Physician Assistants and holding multiple leadership positions within the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, including Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Director at Large, and Constituent Relations Chair.

The creation of the CPAO position marks a significant milestone in MAPA’s history. It reflects the continued growth of our organization and the Board’s commitment to providing strong, strategic, and accountable leadership for Michigan’s PA community.
