Purpose of Committee:

The Legislative Committee advocates for the PAs in Michigan and is a leader in protecting the PA practice environment in Michigan.  The committee regularly interacts with legislators in Lansing on issues that are important and affect PAs.  The committee also develops and maintains relationships with other health care organizations and creates legislative initiatives to promote and protect the PA profession in Michigan.

Committee Activities:

The committee has been active during an election year to show support for PA friendly legislators and attend their fundraisers to discuss pertinent PA issues with them.

Current Projects:

MAPA has been working with the Michigan Legislature to improve the ability of PAs practicing in psychiatry.  Senate Bill 826 was introduced to the Senate Health Policy Committee prior to COVID-19 hitting our State.    On Thursday June 18th, after 2 days of testimony, the Committee voted unanimously to pass the Bill on to the Senate floor for a vote. This is one huge step for PAs but there is more to be done as there is formal opposition to the bill, which must pass the full Senate before going to the House of Representatives for a similar process.  MAPA urges you to be ready to reach out to your physician colleagues and your representatives as we cannot do this alone.  Here is a copy of Senate Bill 826 for your review Michigan Legislature - Senate Bill 0826 (2020)
